The whole record… kept safe… from courtroom to transcript.
SmartRM records every microphone and camera in the courtroom, keeps the recording safe on the court’s own computers, with an option to store it in the cloud, and carries it all the way from the reporter’s first tag to the certified transcript.
- On site or in the cloud
- 1 to 100 courtrooms
- Windows and macOS
No unified system for the whole record. Fewer court reporters. Slower transcripts. Costly systems.
Courts piece the record together from separate systems and vendors. The court reporter workforce keeps shrinking, transcription is slow and labor-intensive, and digital recording has been expensive. With everything in one system, fewer people can do more: one person can cover jobs that used to take several.
Why we built SmartRM →Cover every courtroom
Court monitors manage the recording where there’s no reporter, Automatic recording covers rooms with nobody at all, and remote stenographers and voice writers work from wherever they are.
Transcripts start sooner
A machine rough draft is ready as court proceeds, so transcribers correct instead of typing from nothing.
Ordinary computers
SmartRM runs on PCs the court owns, with standard network cameras and audio, from one courtroom up to as many as needed.
Made for the courtroom, not adapted to it
Courts can’t afford a lost hour of testimony, a sealed passage that leaks, a recording nobody can find, or the cost and hassle of working with several vendors. SmartRM is built to solve all of these and make the whole process much easier.
One system, start to finish
Scheduling court reporters, taking the record, storing every part of it, transcript orders, proofreading and production, and sending out the finished transcript: all in one integrated system, from one vendor.
On site, or in the cloud
Run every part of SmartRM on the court’s own computers, speech-to-text and the Assistant included, with no internet connection needed. Or host the hub and speech-to-text in the cloud. The court chooses.
A recording is never lost
Each courtroom records to its own disk first, then hands the recording to the hub in pieces it can resume. A network drop or a hub restart costs nothing, and the courtroom keeps recording through it.
Follows court practice
Room Assignment, Monitor, QuickTags, Session List, Sealing, Export, Note Take and Transcription: the steps court recording staff already know, with the right screens for each person and nothing else.
One hub. One PC in every courtroom.
One PC in each courtroom captures every microphone channel and every camera. One Management Hub keeps the recordings, the people and their user permissions, the schedule, and the transcripts.
- Starts small, grows to 100 courtrooms on one hub. A single courtroom runs on one PC.
- Remote courtrooms need no open ports. Each courtroom only ever connects out to the hub.
- Staff use any browser, or the SmartRM Client for Windows and Mac.
Everything the record needs, in one system
From the moment court is in session to the day the certified transcript is delivered.
Every mic, every camera
Multichannel audio from the courtroom’s sound system and video from IP, USB and streaming cameras, synced with the audio. PTZ cameras can be aimed from the Record page.
Recording & videoTags and notes
Mark the moment: witness sworn, exhibit admitted. QuickTags for the common ones, private notes only you can see, and Note Take for the clerk.
Tags & Note TakeSealing and sidebars
Sealed audio is silenced by the hub itself and stays silent in every copy. Sidebars are recorded but heard only by people allowed to hear them.
Sealing & sidebarsRough draft and captions
A machine transcript as court proceeds, labeled by microphone, and live captions on a courtroom screen or anyone’s phone. Always marked as not the record.
Captions & language accessRealtime from the reporter
A stenographer’s realtime text from their CAT software, with page and line numbers, for the judge and counsel to follow as it is written.
RealtimeFind it, play it, copy it
Search by case, date, courtroom or words spoken. Play back with tags and transcript side by side. Export a copy a court can verify with ordinary tools.
Search & playbackReporter scheduling
Requests from chambers, the day’s docket imported from the court calendar, and the best-matched reporter for every courtroom and session.
SchedulingTranscript orders and billing
Ordered, produced, proofread and certified, with deposits and final bills along the way and reporters paid from the same records. Every step on record.

The right screen for each user of the SmartRM.AI system
Each user sees only what is appropriate for their role in the process.
Court reporters & monitors
Manage the record, monitor the recording, tag, seal, mark sidebars, follow the cameras and the rough draft, and read back to the courtroom.
For reportersJudges & chambers
Review the record, hear sidebars and sealed parts with the key, follow realtime, request a reporter and order transcripts, from chambers.
For the benchScheduling, production & billing
Cover every courtroom with the right reporter, take transcript orders from request to certified delivery… on time for every transcript, and pay reporters and bill orders.
For the officeOne person can cover several jobs
Scheduling, recording, storage, transcript orders and billing all live in one system, so one person can do what used to take several. A scheduler can also run transcript production and billing, with one sign-in and the screens for all three. An administrator gives each person exactly the roles their work needs, and much of the routine work is automated.
How roles combineProve the record hasn’t been changed
Every finished recording is fingerprinted. Every change made in SmartRM is recorded with who, when, and why. And the audit log is chained so that no entry can be altered or removed without anyone noticing.
- Verify checks a recording and reports anything changed outside SmartRM.
- Every copy carries a certificate and checksums, so people the court authorizes can check and verify it.
- Sign in with the court’s own accounts through Microsoft Entra ID, AD FS or another OpenID Connect service.
